Three FEDESSA Award Wins for storemore Spain and storemore Germany

A fantastic night in Wiesbaden saw storemore Spain and storemore Germany take home three awards at the 2026 FEDESSA Self Storage Industry Awards.

Following ten finalist nominations across Rafter Group businesses this year, storemore Spain was named winner of both the Sustainability Award and Expansion or Conversion of the Year, while storemore Germany took home Marketing Campaign of the Year.

The awards were announced at the FEDESSA Conference & Trade Show in Wiesbaden on 24 September, bringing together operators and suppliers from across the European self storage industry.

Sustainability Award – storemore Spain

storemore Spain was recognised with the Sustainability Award for an approach that has embedded environmental performance across its entire business rather than treating sustainability as a one-off initiative.

The journey began with storemore Móstoles, which became Spain’s first BREEAM Excellent-certified self storage facility. Since then, storemore has extended BREEAM certification across 100% of its operational portfolio, with every future development required to achieve the appropriate certification.

Its approach combines BREEAM-led design with measures including modular construction, renewable energy, green roofs, rainwater harvesting and sustainable mobility. Environmental responsibility is also complemented by a strong focus on social impact, including charity partnerships and community initiatives across the storemore network.

The award builds on storemore Spain’s previous success in the category, having also received the FEDESSA Sustainability Award in 2024.

Expansion or Conversion of the Year – storemore Hortaleza

storemore Hortaleza was named Expansion or Conversion of the Year following the transformation of an established 20-year-old self storage facility in Madrid.

What made the project particularly challenging was that the facility remained open throughout the entire conversion, with existing customers and their belongings still in place.

Rather than closing the building or relocating the entire customer base, the team developed a floor-by-floor approach to the works. Occupied units were upgraded in situ wherever possible, helping minimise disruption while the building was progressively brought up to storemore’s operational and technological standards.

The transformation included 950 app-controlled electronic locks, LED lighting, modernised access and security systems and upgraded fire protection and detection, creating a fully digitised storemore facility while maintaining business continuity throughout the project.

FEDESSA highlighted the team’s ability to carry out extensive upgrades, including fire protection, damp and waterproofing works, without closing the facility.

Marketing Campaign of the Year – storemore Germany

storemore Germany was also celebrating after its 2026 film campaign, “Space is not a Product. Space is a Solution,” was named Marketing Campaign of the Year.

The campaign was created around a simple idea: rather than advertising self storage through boxes, unit sizes and prices, show people why they might need space in the first place.

A series of 12 films connects self storage with recognisable moments in everyday life, from moving and downsizing to changing relationships, growing businesses and simply needing more breathing room at home.

Each film contrasts a familiar moment of pressure or change with the calm and flexibility that additional space can provide, under the central message:

“You don’t have to solve everything. You just need space.”

The approach has also delivered strong engagement. The first four films released generated more than 764,000 views, with almost 30% of viewers watching through to the end.

The campaign demonstrates how creative storytelling can help explain a product category that is still relatively unfamiliar to many consumers in Germany, while building a distinctive and consistent identity for storemore.

Three Awards Across Two European Markets

These three awards recognise very different areas of the businesses: from sustainable development and complex building transformation to creative marketing and brand building.

Together, they reflect the breadth of work taking place across storemore Spain and storemore Germany and, most importantly, the teams behind each project.

A huge congratulations to everyone involved in the winning entries, as well as to all of the Rafter Group businesses and teams recognised among this year’s finalists.

We’re incredibly proud to see their work recognised by the European self storage industry and look forward to building on this success.
